On April 5th, 2003 a long overdue tourney was played at Horseshoe Billiards in Duluth, MN. A Top-16 invite-only 'King Of The Board'
tourney was the brainchild of Smitty and Ryan Williams. The idea was to have a one-on-one, 501 DI/DO & Cricket format to see who
could lay claim to 'King Of The Board' - best of the best. After warm-ups and sign-ups the tourney began at about 2:00pm with several
big upsets in the first and secon rounds even though the top 4 players remained in the semi's. In one of the biggest upsets of the day,
Lopez beat Brett to move into the 'winners of the winners'. I almost had the match of my life in taking 'The Great One' to game five
only to be eliminated in a 4.6 to 4.3 Cricket game. The tourney results were as follows:

I thought this was a great tournament. I enjoyed the singles competition with so many great players
in attendance. Special thanks go out to Ryan for adding in money for the tourney, to Smitty for organizing
the event, to Horseshoe Billiards for having a great location for a big tournament, and to TPA for also
sponsoring the event and supplying the boards.         -Mark Wagemaker
