DART TOURNAMENT TERMS - FORMATS

  • LUCK OF THE DRAW - Randomly draw teams at the beginning of the event (2 player teams)
  • 301 / CRICKET - Alternate games between 301 and Cricket, starting with 301 (501 / Cricket played the same)
  • RACE TO X - The first team to win X number of games wins the match. X is typically 2 or 3
  • FREEZE RULE - A common format of partners '01. One team is players 1 & 3; the other team is players 2 & 4. The team with the first player to go out (legally reach exactly zero) wins the game. A legal out can only be thrown when your partner has less than or equal to the combined total of your opponents points. If a player illegally takes out the game, his team automatically loses that game.
  • PARTNERS CRICKET – A common format of tournament Cricket. Players 1 & 3 play on one game score, and players 2 & 4 play on the other score.
  • FLIP, LOSER, DIDDLE - Match style where you flip a quarter to choose the order of the first game. Winner of the coin flip is player 1 and player 3. The loser of each game starts the next game (player 1 and player 3) unless you have reached the tiebreaker. For the tiebreaker game you diddle for the choice. The winner of the diddle must either choose to start the next game, or pick which game to play and allow the other team to start.
  • TIE BREAKER GAME - When the match is tied, and both teams only need one more win to finish the match
  • TRUE DIDDLE - One player from each team throws one dart. The closest dart to the center hole wins the diddle. When the diddle is tied, each player throws again in opposite order. All darts remain in the board until the diddle is decided, with one exception. If the first player hits the center hole, that dart is pulled out to give the second player a chance to tie.
  • ONE BULL DIDDLE - The same as a true diddle, except the entire bull's-eye ring (inner and outer ring) is considered the center hole. Play the same order as true diddle, and leave all darts in the board until a winner is decided.
  • DIDDLE ORDER – There are three common ways of determining which team throws first at the tiebreaker diddle. (1) Flip a coin, winner chooses (2) Loser of coin flip at the beginning of the match is awarded the choice of diddle (3) The loser of the last game is awarded the choice of diddle
  • DOUBLE ELIMINATION – Most dart events are double elimination tournaments. Every team must lose two matches to be eliminated. The last team with less than two match losses is the champion.
  • ENTRY FEE – The amount of money to be prepaid to enter a tournament. The entry fee does not include game fees, unless indicated otherwise. Typical game fees are
  • $$ ADDED - The money added to the total purse above and beyond the combined entry fees.
  • % PAYBACK – The total purse is calculated by a percentage of the total entry fees. Example: 200% payback means the purse will be double the t otal entry fees.
